Someone sent me this documentary on Channel 4. I think it is something worth watching, as you get a pretty good inside view of what actually goes on in China’s so-called justice system.
And it just so happens that over the weekend, during the latest G8 meeting, Bush defended his attending the opening ceremony (via NYT):
“I view the Olympics as an opportunity for me to cheer on our athletes,” Mr. Bush said at a press conference in nearby Toyako, after the two leaders met privately. He said not going to the opening ceremony “would be an affront to the Chinese people” that might make it “more difficult to be able to speak frankly with the Chinese leadership.”
Let me tell you something: everyone in China knows that the Olympics is really just something to show to the Westerners.
